Recommended Books and “Stuff”
I’m often asked for recommendations for meditation cushions, yoga mats, books, etc. and while none of it is really necessary, some of it can make your practices more comfortable.
Creating a dedicated space to your meditation and/or yoga practice is also helpful, and that can be as simple as collecting similar items that you already own and setting them aside in a special box or basket in the area where you practice. That can even mean placing your supportive pillow and a throw blanket in a basket or on a shelf next to your meditation “chair” or spot on the sofa.
As I age, I must admit that finding ways to support my body (especially my knees and ankles) as I practice is becoming more important to me. But “stuff” like cushions, special chairs, or mats can also become barriers to practice, especially if you are differently abled. So, remember, you can always meditate sitting where and how you can with what you have already, with no special “stuff” required.
Nevertheless, here are my recommendations. NOTE: I make a small commission as an Amazon Associate if you purchase through the Amazon links provided. I use these small commissions, which don’t change the price you pay, to support the cost of running one FREE course each year to eliminate any barrier to making these teachings and materials available to all. I try to select links to Small Businesses and eco-friendly manufacturers as much as possible.
Having said alllll of that, I also urge you to consider buying through your local bookstore or other local artisans as much as possible. Or to buy nothing at all and borrow books from your library, use a pillow from your sofa or bed, and re-use your kid’s favorite blankie as your meditation blanket. Or get crafty and make your own cushion, throw, or bench!
As you wish!
